Introduced in 2003 Nokia 1100 achieved its popularity despite being made in a time when more modern cellphones with more features (e.g. color screen, camera, mp3 players etc.) were available in the market. It was targeted towards developing countries and users who do not require advanced features beyond making calls and SMS text messages, alarm clock, reminders, etc.
The 1100 became the most sold consumer electronics in the world in 2007 and to achieve this record Nokia 1100 had to beat its older brother Nokia 3310 (126 million units sold), Sony Playstation 2 (150 million units sold) and other notable devices. Due to its low price and high quality Nokia 1100 is still popular among second hand markets
