Flag of Libya – WAS the ONLY one-color flag

The flag of Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya (1977–2011) is the only national flag in the world with just one color and no design, insignia, or other details.

The flag of Libya consisted of a green field and was adopted on November 11, 1977 by the Great Socialist People’s Libyan Arab Jamahiriya. Green reflects the predominant religion of Islam and is the official national color of Libya and is also symbolic of Muammar Gaddafi’s “Green Revolution”.

Because of the current uprising against the government rule of Muammar al-Gaddafi, the 1951–1969 flag – as well as various makeshift versions without the crescent and star symbol – came back into the use in areas held by the Libyan opposition and by protesters at several Libyan diplomatic missions abroad.

The results of the Libyan civil war dictated which flag will remain, so the only national flag with just one color and no design, insignia, or other details ceased to exist.
