The so-called "Marathon Man" logged 15401 km (9,569 miles) in a single year as he finished consecutive 42 km (26.2 mile) races in seven countries. Engels stated that the key is to keep steady speed and relatively low blood pressure. The record was set on February 5, 2011.
Even though Stefaan was diagnosed with Astma as a teen and doctors told him he should not participate in sports, he chose to overcome the limitations set by his doctors and by 25 he finished hist first marathon. Stefaan, who is now 49, will probably retire, yet he will continue his legaciy by writing a book, coaching and giving lectures.
This isn't first World Record for Stefaan, in 2008 he set a new World Record by finishing 20 Iron Man triathlons in a single year. Engels stated that he has achieved all of this as a personal challenge and to be an example for others.
